Collections

Collections of objects have always been of interest to me. The rough basis of the work i am undertaking on my MA is heavily influenced by the idea of collections of objects and their containers. Some of these images are just things that interest me but i have purposefully included collections of insects (US National Entomology Collection) as this was a fascination for me as a child. I would spend many hours in museums looking at their collections especially the silk moth collection at the Nicholson Institute in Leek. I was for a while very interested in Egyptian imagery and especially the use of the scarab beetle. Not just the iridescence colour (which reminded me of Tiffany glass) but the knowledge that they were seen as protection which is why they were worn on wrists and ankles.

No collections of objects could be complete without some images of my fathers collecting habit. These images show just a fraction of his collection. Not only do my parents collect contemporary art and crafts but my father is very keen all thing old and unusual.
